KOCT Finalist at the WAVE Awards competition
KOCT is pleased to announce that six (6) of its program submissions were declared Finalists in this year’s WAVE Awards competition at Alliance for Community Media Regional Conference which will be held in San Jose on October 24th -26th. There were over 350 entries in this regional competition between Public, Education and Government Access producers. The WAVE Awards ceremony will be held from 6-8 PM on Saturday October 26 as the concluding event to the Alliance for Community Western Region Conference!
Many of KOCT finalists were created to play not only on KOCT but at the Visitor Information Center. The video monitor there was obtained by KOCT as a result of a grant from the County of San Diego to air custom, KOCT produced tourism public service announcements. The Mission San Luis Rey, the San Luis Rey River Bike Trail, the California Surf Museum and Oceanside’s Harbor and Beaches were all highlighted by KOCT Editors Angela Miranda (Team Lead Master Control) and Garvin Ha (Production Team Lead)
Another finalist was producer Janene Possell Shepherd for Discover Downtown, a series funded by MainStreet Oceanside that highlights the many attractions, businesses and restaurants in downtown Oceanside.
Executive Director Tom Reeser also was a finalist for producing the monthly LIVE program Journalist Roundtable. The program is directed by Station Manager Jake Rush. It is the only program of his kind on local television i.e. journalist interviewing elected officials, city staff and community leaders about the issues and events that affect Oceanside and North County. Kent Davy, former editor of the North County Times is our host. He is joined on set by Alison St John and columnist from the San Diego Union-Tribune, Logan Jenkins.
