Newsbrief Big Read True Grit

The Oceanside Public Library hosted a special Big Read with Author Jay Jennings giving a presentation of the book True Grit. In this KOCT Newsbrief, we talk with a few attendees to find out what they learned and why reading is so important for them.

The Big Read was a series of events that stretched across the month of September, with the focus on the Charles Portis novel, True Grit. On October 3, Jay Jennings, a freelance writer/journalist and friend of Charles Portis, came to give the final presentation. Jay discussed the process Charles Portis went through to finish the novel and the production of the True Grit movies and Mr. Portis’ involvement with them. Throughout the presentation, Mr. Jennings used various visual aids in his discussion of the setting of the book and the inspiration of the location and characters in the True Grit novel.
