On KOCT - North County’s Channel

Tune to KOCT - Channel 18, Thursday, March 2nd at 6pm to view the new episode of Journalist Roundtable. This educational and instructive episode will showcase three accomplished, professional women:

Dr. Sunita “Sunny” Cooke, the Superintendent/President of the MiraCosta Community College District. She will be discussing: the $455 million-dollar campus improvement bond, the new “MiraCosta Promise” – which will provide a year of college without fees as well as funding toward textbooks and instructional supplies, and her role as chair of the statewide "Doing What Matters for Jobs and the Economy" campaign.

Dr. Karen Haynes, the longest-serving President of the California State University system and President of CSU San Marcos since 2004. In a recent community-wide address, she sought to debunk the myths and stand up for public higher education, discussed reducing state funding, and explained the challenges facing today’s college students. In addition to those challenges, we will discuss the launch of CSUSM’s new Engineering programs, a major philanthropic campaign, recent CSU budget news, and many other successes.

Margery Pierce, Housing and Neighborhood Services Director for the City of Oceanside. She oversees numerous divisions in the City of Oceanside, including Parks and Recreation and the Housing and Code Enforcement Division. One major responsibility is the implementation of the city’s Housing Assistance Program. She works with a variety of non-profit agencies, governmental agencies, and businesses in providing housing assistance to the community. She will discuss the challenges of finding housing in one of the most expensive housing markets in the nation and the growing homeless problem in our county.

The host of this long-running monthly series is Kent Davy, the former Editor for the North County Times. He will be joined by Alison St. John, the KPBS North County Bureau Editor, and North County Editor for the San Diego Union-Tribune, Melanie Marshall.
